Define Ventures Welcomes Bruce Broussard as Venture Partner

We're thrilled to welcome Bruce Broussard, former CEO and President of Humana, as Venture Partner at Define Ventures. Bruce's exceptional track record in scaling healthcare organizations - from startups to Fortune 50 companies - will be instrumental in guiding our founders building the next generation of category-defining healthcare companies.

Bruce's decision to join Define Ventures stems from his belief that our team is uniquely positioned to transform healthcare. He has built a strong and trustworthy relationship with Define over the past several years, including first-hand experience in incubating and spinning out Cohere Health from Humana. This collaborative history underscores the alignment between Bruce's vision for healthcare innovation and Define's strategic approach.

We recently sat down with Bruce to learn more about why he's looking forward to partnering with our founders and what our core values personally mean to him.

Why are you interested in joining Define at this point in your career?

I joined Define Ventures because I believe innovation is the path to changing healthcare for the better.  Over the years, I've seen the struggles patients go through and the tremendous opportunity that exists  to make healthcare simpler, more affordable, and more effective. I am excited to play a part in Define  Ventures’ mission of backing passionate entrepreneurs and partnering with other innovative healthcare stakeholders in shaping a future where everyone has access to the care they need and deserve. Together,  we can help create a healthcare system that truly works for everyone.

What does our value "Defining Healthcare" mean to you?

To me, defining healthcare is about making our country’s healthcare system better by fundamentally  redefining it through the embrace of innovation—leveraging technology, new business models,  partnerships, and data-driven approaches to meet patients where they are, on their terms. The focus should not be just on treating illness but should include prioritizing keeping people healthy over the long  term, with an emphasis on prevention, early intervention, and personalized care. It’s about empowering  patients to take control of their own health, with seamless systems that support them throughout their  journey—whether that’s managing a chronic condition or improving overall wellness. At its core,  healthcare should be about creating a better experience for patients and building a system that adapts  to the needs of the future, focusing on long-term, sustainable health outcomes for everyone.

What does our value "Defining Partnership" mean to you?

Defining partnership is all about working together in an integrated way that lifts everyone up, where "all  boats rise." It’s built on trust, open communication, and mutual respect, with everyone moving toward  the same goals. In healthcare, real partnerships are especially important because they break down  barriers and bring in fresh ideas, all with one main focus: improving patient care. For partnerships to  thrive, the relationships need to improve healthcare and create sustainable value for each partner  through creating integrated and seamless solutions for the patients and providers. It’s about making a  bigger impact together than we ever could on our own.

What does our value "Defining Leadership" means to you?

Defining leadership is about setting a clear purpose and strategy that inspires and motivates teams to  execute a shared vision with excellence. Effective leaders align individuals around a larger mission,  fostering a culture where people are driven to contribute at their highest potential. Leadership requires  setting a strategic direction that not only delivers results but creates lasting change for society. Trust,  integrity, and transparency are essential to building strong teams that collaborate to achieve long-term  impact. Great leaders articulate a purpose that resonates, establish accountability, and create an  environment where high performance thrives. They listen, learn, and adapt, ensuring decisions are well informed and forward-thinking. Above all, impactful leaders bring passion and perseverance, which drive teams to not just meet goals but leave a meaningful legacy through their work.
